Goldfish has what appears to be a broken tail, it can't swim properly and is spitting out its food?

It's about two years old I believe there aren't any shreds or bleeding or anything. What am I supposed to do? I really want to do something it just looks so pitiful =( and please don't say flush it because I am not killing something I can potentially help!
